Back and Breastfeeding

Its been 8 months since leaving this site, and I now have a 6 week old son, born 7 weeks early.  I am exclusively pumping breastmilk for him and looking to get healthy, and maybe shed a few pounds.  Im only up about 15 lbs from prepregnancy weight, so Im not totally discouraged.  I look forward to getting back to running when the weather warms up, so that will help.

Advice???????????????

Im out for the next 7 months!!!

Yep!!! Im pregnant!

Im down to 150 which makes my total weight loss 35 lbs since this time last year and 25 since joining Buddyslim.

I will be back as soon as I stop breastfeeding, so probably a year from now or so.

Thanks everyone that helped me so much- especially Jen, Michelle and Billy.

May is here and I’m down 15 lbs…

So, here comes May….

I’ve been at it now for 4 straight months, give or take a few “off days”, but here I sit, 15 lbs lighter and I’ve hit a “snag” in my loss.  Ive been sitting right here at 160ish for like 3 weeks!!!

I get compliments almost daily.  I realized the other day that I have actually lost more than 20 lbs since the school year began!   On the other hand, I still have 20+ to lose!!!

So, here’s my plan for May-

Im upping my cardio to 40-45 minutes 5 days.   Im going to stick with weights about 3 times a week, BUT Im going to add a 30 minute sweat class once a week (which kicks my a@@ every time) and Im cutting out a few more foods that I find I have a weakness for.

1) coffee!!!!  I know its weird, but I crave sweets when I drink coffee.  2) cheese (unless its in something already like lean cuisines or whatever) I am just adding calories when I put it on a sandwich or something-its just as good without it!  3) chips- even the baked/low fat kind- I eat too many!!!

I have an event in June, on my 5th anniversary, that I get to dress up for and I WILL LOSE ANOTHER 10 LBS before I buy a dress!!!

Some new goals…

So here I sit, one day before my birthday, still 14 lbs from the goal I had for tomorrow.  I have dropped 11 lbs since January, so I am definitely not discouraged, but I feel the need to re-evaluate my goals.

By April 1st, my first goal will be another 5 lbs.

That’s as far ahead as I’m thinking right now.

How I got here…

At 12 I was fat… 130 lbs at barely 5 feet tall.

At 17 I was sick…  Anorexia.  It could have been worse.  106 at 5′5.  I was lucky actually.

My husband of 4 years now took me on when I was 15 and he was 16.  We grew up together really…  He hasn’t missed much of my life.  When I was sick at a teenager, he would make me eat, take vitamins, iron.  He watched me shrink from 16-17 by about 30 lbs very quickly and had to be worried.  After high school it was easier to eat without feeling fat.  Slowly I became healthy again.

At 19 I joined a gym and made fitness my priority rather than food.  I stuck with it for about 3 years.

At 23 I was healthy, I put on a few in college.  I was around 130 at 5′5 and feeling good.

I got married right after my college graduation.  I got pregnant within a week of being married with my first son.   He died at 12 weeks 3 days and was delivered at 14 weeks.  I had only gained 11 lbs.

I got pregnant with my daughter 3 months later, having not lost any of the weight.  I gained 37 lbs and carried her to 38 weeks 6 days.  She is 3 now. I was 24 when she was born.

Between my daughter and my second son, lost about 30 lbs and weighed in at 154 at my first prenatal visit 18 months later.  I gained 41 lbs with Kenny, clocking in at 195 at delivery.  I was 26 when he was born.  He is 14 months old now, and I have lost about 20 lbs since delivery, 10 of it being just from delivery.  So really I have only lost like 10 lbs in the past 14 months.

IIn February, I tried the 6 day body makeover with moderate success, 9 lbs in 6 days.  It came back on within another 2 weeks, even without eating poorly.

I have found it difficult to eat well, and plan meals effectively.  I find myself consumed with mothering, teaching, trying to be a wife, and make it to the gym.  I feel like if I have15 minutes to fix mac and cheese and green beans for the kids, that’s what I eat.  I teach English, I eat school lunch too often.  I don’t eat breakfast except on the weekends.  Who has time to sit down for a bowl of cereal when there are 2 kids to get ready and get to 2 different places every morning.  Oh yeah, I need 20 minutes to shower and dress myself before heading into the masses of 300 teenagers as well.

So I guess what I’m saying is that there is no one reason I am in this situation.  I know there are people that can have babies and look great before their maternity leave is over.  I guess having 3 babies in 4 years can take it’s toll, but is that really my excuse?  Or is it more the fact that I haven’t made my health a priority?  Have I put my own needs aside for so long that now I feel sooooo helpless?

It is hard to imagine myself as the person I was 5 years ago.  So much has changed other than my weight.  How will a thin me fit in to this new life that came along with the 45 lbs I put on?
